rsz_1img_3038.jpgRenfroe seventh graders are starting off the year with an interdisciplinary Humanities/English A IB unit on culture and multiculturalism.  Students will explore the unit question--What are the ingredients in your cultural stew?--in part through their reading and discussion of Outcasts United, the story of the Fugees soccer team located in Clarkston, GA.  Seventh grade Humanities teachers Penny Ratliff and David Harbin and English A teachers Stacey Daniel and Cindy Tarrant are coordinating the students' reading and discussion in their hclassrooms to enhance their study of the Georgia Performance Standards in Social Studies and English language arts.  To learn more about this book, click on the picture!

Principal, Renfroe Middle School

On Wednesday, April 14th, Mr. Derrick Thomas began serving as Renfroe Middle School’s new principal.  Mr. Thomas is already a familiar face to many CSD employees as he has served as assistant principal at Renfroe since July 2008.  

Mr. Thomas started his career in education in 1999 as a 6th grade math instructor in Clayton County Public Schools where he received multiple Educator of the Month awards and was nominated for Teacher of the Year. From there, he moved on to become an instructional specialist in mathematics before becoming an assistant principal at Babb Middle School in 2003 where he remained through 2008.

His wife, Tameka, is also an educator teaching 8th grade language arts in Henry County Public Schools.  They have two daughters, Morgan and Kennedy.
